Hugh MacInnis Lumber firewood processing yard with log truck and measurement bins

Premium Cape Breton Hardwood

At Hugh MacInnis Lumber, we take pride in delivering the best firewood Cape Breton has to offer. Our firewood is sourced from sustainably managed woodlots across the island, ensuring a reliable supply of high-quality hardwood year after year.

Hardwood Species

Our firewood mix includes the finest hardwood species native to Cape Breton's forests:

  • Yellow Birch — Burns hot and long with a pleasant, mild aroma. One of the highest BTU-producing hardwoods in the Maritimes.
  • White Birch — Easy to split and quick to season, white birch is excellent kindling and a reliable burning wood.
  • Sugar Maple — The gold standard of firewood. Dense, long-burning, and produces outstanding coals for overnight heating.
  • Red Maple — A dependable all-around hardwood that splits cleanly and burns evenly.
  • White Ash — Prized for its low moisture content even when freshly cut. Splits easily and burns clean.
  • Beech — Extremely dense and long-burning. Beech produces intense, lasting heat and excellent coals.
